Eight Sacred Truths from the Holy Book and Church Fathers on where happiness is:

.

1. Jesus said to the woman at the well, “All those who drink this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring which will provide him with life-giving water and give him eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)

.

2. According to Saint Thomas Aquinas, we should not look for happiness in wealth, pleasure, honor, and power. We will not find it there. We are created in the likeness and image of God. Worldly matters do not fully satisfy the hunger of our hearts and souls. Over the long term, we will either be restless or frustrated. Worse, since we cannot get the happiness we have been longing for, we will be prone to irritation. Only in God can we find happiness. But who is God? God is love and love is a gift with no thoughts of return. So, to love God is to program our heart, mind, and soul, with the help of the Holy Spirit, in the direction of always having the tendency to do good to others, who are all God’s children, without any thoughts of return. Love, in short, is to will the good of others.

.

3. Jesus said, “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

(Matthew 6:33)

.

4. The Lord Jesus said, “My food is to obey the will of the one who sent me and to finish the work he gave me to do.”

(John 4:34)

.

5. “Lord, you have made us for yourself, and therefore our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” (St. Augustine)

.

6. Jesus said, “The two most important Commandments are: Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength, and the second, love your neighbors as you love yourself.” (Mark 12:30-31)

.

7. “Happy are you poor; the kingdom of God is yours.” (Luke 6:20).

Translated, “How lucky you are if you are not addicted to worldly matters, such as wealth, pleasure, honor and power.” (Bishop Robert Barron)

.

8. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” (Luke 2:14)

Translated,”Make God of highest value to you, and then peace will breakout on you and all around you.” (Bishop Robert Barron)

.

Note:

1. The only person who can tell us if the eight Sacred Truths above are true is we ourselves, individually, through the circumstances and experiences of our own lives, and through the passage of time.
